Biden faces pro-Palestinian demonstrations in US for supporting Israel in Gaza genocide

US President Joe Biden faced protesters in his home town of Scranton, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, who voiced their opposition to his support for Israel’s military genocide in Gaza.

Since October 7, 2023, Israeli strikes have killed nearly 34,000 Palestinians. Majority of the victims are women and children in Gaza.

As Biden’s motorcade was en route from the Scranton Cultural Center to his next campaign event, a group of demonstrators gathered and chanted slogans such as “Biden, Biden you can’t hide, we charge you with genocide” and “Free free free Palestine,” while waving Palestinian flags.

The genocide in Gaza began after a cross-border retaliatory attack by the Palestinian group Hamas last October, which led to significant casualties and widespread destruction.

More than 33,800 Palestinians have died and 76,600 others have been injured since the genocide began, with severe shortages of essential supplies exacerbated by Israel’s blockade of the enclave, particularly affecting residents in northern Gaza.

This ongoing war has resulted in 85% of Gaza’s population being displaced internally, exacerbating shortages of food, water, and medicine, while causing extensive damage to infrastructure.

Israel faces accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which issued an interim ruling in January calling for an end to genocidal acts and measures to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.
