Former minister of JK, Lal Singh.

Kathua: In Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, Congress candidate Choudhary Lal Singh has been accused of misbehaving with a police team two days ago.

An FIR was filed against Singh at Kathua police station on Tuesday based on a complaint by Sub-Inspector Swarn Singh Manhas from the Industrial Estate Kathua police post.

The FIR includes several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), such as obstructing a public servant from performing their duty (section 353), defamation (section 500), intentional insult to provoke breach of peace (section 504), and criminal intimidation (section 506).

Kathua is part of the Udhampur parliamentary constituency where elections are scheduled for the first phase on Friday, involving Singh, Union Minister Jitendra Singh, and 10 other candidates.

According to the complaint, the police official was on duty at Kalibari chowk in Kathua during Singh’s roadshow on April 16 when Singh allegedly shouted at him and other police officials, intending to publicly defame them.

The complaint stated that Singh’s actions caused insult, defamation, criminal intimidation, and obstruction in the discharge of lawful duties. The FIR has been registered, and Sub-Inspector Sudershan Kumar is investigating the case.
