New Delhi: A Delhi court on Saturday sent Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to judicial custody until July 12 in connection with corruption charges related to alleged irregularities in the 2021-22 excise policy.
Kejriwal was arrested by the CBI on June 26 and was initially placed in CBI custody for three days. At the time of his arrest, he was already in judicial custody for a money laundering case linked to the excise policy scam being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
During the hearing, Senior Advocate Vikram Chaudhary, representing Kejriwal, informed the court that the investigation had been ongoing since 2022. He noted that Kejriwal was arrested in March 2024 and had been granted interim bail by the Supreme Court.
Chaudhary requested the court to direct the CBI to present all evidence and stated that the CBI had committed to concluding the investigation by July 3.
The CBI has filed four charge sheets in the case against 17 people, including Manish Sisodia and BRS leader K Kavitha. Kejriwal has not been named in any of the indictments. The CBI alleges that out of Rs100 crore received by AAP as kickbacks, Rs44.45 crore was transferred to Goa for election campaigns through hawala channels between June 2021 and January 2022.
