Kolkata: Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari blamed the party’s poor performance in the Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal on the lack of support from the minority community.
He suggested abandoning the slogan ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ in favor of ‘Hum unke saath jo humare saath’ (we are with those who are with us).
During an extended session of the BJP’s state executive committee, Adhikari dismissed the need for a Minority Morcha in the party. He criticized the electoral process in West Bengal, claiming that “Jihadi goons” of the TMC prevented Hindus from voting and argued for the implementation of the Disturbed Areas Act to ensure free and fair elections.
The session followed recent bypoll losses to the TMC, which added to the BJP’s disappointments after its parliamentary seat count dropped from 18 to 12 in the 2019 elections.
TMC leader Kunal Ghosh responded to Adhikari’s comments, accusing the BJP of making excuses to appease their cadre after the Lok Sabha defeat.
