New Delhi: Ramgopal Yadav, a leader of the Samajwadi Party, called for the government to revert to the traditional subject-based question paper format for UPSC examinations during a session of the Rajya Sabha on Monday.
In his address during the Zero Hour, Yadav emphasised the significance of education in fostering holistic development. He fondly recalled the previous exam pattern, attributing it to nurturing the country’s legal and scientific talent.
Yadav lamented the shift towards objective questions in competitive exams, linking this format to an increase in cheating and leaks of exam papers. He stressed the importance of subjective questions in evaluating an individual’s analytical skills.
Expressing concern over the caliber of successful candidates, Yadav remarked, “Many selected candidates struggle to compose even a basic letter correctly.”
He urged for a return to the old system, asserting, “This approach needs revision. Bring back the traditional format.”
The Chair made a special allowance for Yadav to raise the issue despite procedural requirements, noting, “I will permit him to discuss this matter on the condition that all members follow the correct electronic submission procedure in the future.”
