The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) of Bangladesh has called on India to arrest Sheikh Hasina and send her back to Bangladesh, Firstpost reported.
SCBA President AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, who is also the Joint General Secretary of the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), accused Hasina of killing many people in Bangladesh, referencing the deaths of protestors.
The 15-year rule of Sheikh Hasina ended abruptly on Monday when she resigned and fled the country after weeks of mass protests culminated in nearly 100 deaths on Sunday. With the Bangladesh Army siding with the protestors, Hasina fled for her safety and is currently in India, seeking refuge in another country for her exile.
Khokon urged India to arrest and return Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana, who also fled to India. He emphasised the desire for good relations with the people of India but demanded accountability for Hasina’s actions.
Khokon also stated that the movement against Hasina was not to impose a state of emergency and warned of protests if such a measure is taken. He expressed opposition to a government like that of Moeen U Ahmed and Fakhruddin Ahmed, noting that students and the public would not accept it and would protest.
Additionally, Khokon called for the resignation of judges who have acted politically, accusing them of bias against the BNP and breaking their oaths.
He criticised judges for remanding BNP members and sentencing them in false cases while acquitting Awami League leaders in similar situations. Khokon gave these judges a week to resign, threatening to disclose their names if they do not step down.
