Court martial proceedings have been initiated against Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The former ISI chief is now in military custody, with the proceedings being conducted under the Army Act, following orders from the Supreme Court of Pakistan regarding the Top City case, as reported by The Express Tribune.
The ISPR’s statement on Monday confirmed that the Pakistan Army conducted a detailed court of inquiry, as directed by the Supreme Court, to investigate complaints against Lt Gen (retd) Hameed in the Top City case.
As a result, disciplinary action has been taken, including multiple violations of the Pakistan Army Act post-retirement.
A high-level inquiry, led by a major general, was earlier constituted in April to examine allegations that Lt Gen (retd) Hameed misused his authority while serving as ISI director general. This marks the first formal inquiry against him since his resignation in November 2022, four months before his retirement.
The inquiry stems from a petition filed by Moeez Ahmed Khan, the owner of Top City, who accused Faiz of abusing his power. The petition alleges that in May 2017, ISI officials, acting on Faiz’s orders, raided Khan’s office and home, seizing valuables including gold, diamonds, and cash.
The Supreme Court, recognising the seriousness of the allegations, is closely monitoring the matter due to its potential impact on the institution’s image.
