New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has approached the Supreme Court to challenge his arrest by the CBI in connection with the alleged liquor policy corruption case.

The special leave petition, submitted to the apex court, contests the Delhi High Court’s August 5 decision that rejected Kejriwal’s plea against the CBI arrest and his subsequent remand, as reported by IANS.

On Monday, senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi raised the issue before Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, seeking an urgent hearing. In response, CJI Chandrachud requested an email be sent to the registry for consideration, stating, “Send an email, I will examine it.”

The Delhi High Court, in its contested ruling, stated that Kejriwal’s arrest was not without justifiable reasons and was not illegal.

The High Court has yet to deliver a decision on Kejriwal’s bail plea related to the CBI case, with the verdict reserved on July 29. On the same day, the CBI filed a charge sheet against Kejriwal and other accused in a special court.

Additionally, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has already named the AAP and its national convenor Kejriwal in its prosecution complaint regarding a money laundering case.

On July 12, the Supreme Court granted Kejriwal interim bail in the money laundering case brought by the ED, but he remained in jail due to the CBI’s arrest. Meanwhile, a local court extended Kejriwal’s judicial custody in the excise policy case until August 20.
