Eight men were arrested in Ayodhya on Friday for allegedly gang-raping a woman who works as cleaning-staff at the Ram Janmabhoomi temple.

According to the victim’s complaint, Vansh Chaudhary, a resident of Sahadatganj, had promised to take her around the district for leisure.

On August 16, he took her to a guest house, where he and two friends sexually assaulted her, later involving three more men in the crime, Telegraph reported.

The victim, a third-year BA student, said she was further assaulted at a barrage in Banvirpur and released on August 18.

Fearing for her and her family’s lives after being threatened, she initially did not approach the police. However, on August 25, Vansh allegedly abducted her again with several accomplices.

During the attempted assault in a car, they crashed into a divider, giving her the chance to escape, the report said.

She claimed to have first contacted the police on August 26, but her complaint was not initially registered.

After an inquiry, police filed the case on September 2, leading to the arrest of all eight accused, who were subsequently jailed.

The police noted that the victim had known Vansh for four years, which had earned her trust.
