Katra: In a fiery address at a public gathering in Katra ahead of the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi took aim at the Congress party, accusing it of compromising Indian culture and values for political gains.
“For the sake of some votes, Congress is ready to compromise with your culture and heritage,” Modi declared to the large crowd.
He criticized recent remarks, as per Modi, made by a Congress leader abroad, stating, “Recently, the heir of Congress’ royal family went to foreign soil and said that Indian Gods and Goddesses are not Gods. In India, our deities are worshiped in every village, but Congress doesn’t consider them as such. Do you agree with them?”
Modi’s comments came as he urged voters in Jammu and Kashmir to reject the Congress-National Conference alliance, which he suggested was disconnected from the cultural roots of the region. His speech also played into a larger narrative framed by the BJP, portraying Congress as out of touch with the sentiments of the Indian people and their traditions.
