Israel’s missile hits Lebanese journalist during live reporting

The journalist, identified as Fadi Boudiya, the editor-in-chief of the Miraya International Network, reportedly sustained injuries from the incident.

New Delhi: A disturbing video captures a journalist being knocked off balance while broadcasting live from his home in Baalbek, Lebanon, Hindudstan Times reported.

The journalist, identified as Fadi Boudiya, the editor-in-chief of the Miraya International Network, reportedly sustained injuries from the incident.

On Monday, Fadi Boudiya was conducting his broadcast from home when the event occurred. Israel has launched its largest airstrikes against the Iran-backed Shiite militant group Hezbollah, aiming to expand its aerial campaign targeting what it identifies as Hezbollah’s weapon sites in southern and eastern Lebanon.

An Israeli military spokesperson indicated that the operation focuses on diminishing Hezbollah’s military capabilities, suggesting that a ground invasion is not imminent.

The recent airstrikes have resulted in nearly 500 fatalities and over 1,000 injuries. European foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has warned that this escalation could lead the region into “all-out war.” Tensions escalated in August following Hezbollah’s retaliation with rockets and drones after the assassination of its top commander, Faud Shukr, in July.

On Sunday, Hezbollah declared an “open-ended battle of reckoning” against Israel, launching over 100 rockets, following a series of explosions involving pagers and radios that Lebanon attributed to Israeli actions targeting Hezbollah members.

Israel has expressed concerns that diplomatic efforts to curb Hezbollah’s attacks are failing, positing that all-out war may be the only solution to halt these incursions and allow residents to return to their homes.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) reported that journalists face significant risks while covering the conflict and humanitarian crisis in Gaza, often lacking sufficient protection and communication. CPJ Program Director Carlos Martinez de la Serna remarked, “Every time a journalist is killed, injured, arrested, or forced into exile, we lose fragments of the truth. Those responsible for these casualties face dual trials: one under international law and another before history’s unforgiving gaze.”

UN reports indicate that over 122 journalists and media professionals have been killed in Gaza since October 7, with many more injured.
