Ganderbal: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, has claimed that local authorities are pressuring non-local labourers to leave the valley following the recent attack in Sonamarg that killed a doctor and six construction workers.

While acknowledging the fear and panic caused by the attack, Mufti said that expelling labourers in this manner is not a solution and could lead to further complications.

Mufti said that this reaction could send a negative message across the country, particularly after Jammu and Kashmir recently held peaceful, militancy-free elections. She added that such actions might trigger backlash against Kashmiris living and working in other states.

In her post on X, Mufti called on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene and ensure labourers are granted enough time, urging a more thoughtful approach to prevent further escalation.
