Ganderbal: Barely an hour after former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, claimed that local authorities in Ganderbal are pressuring non-local labourers to leave the valley, the police have refuted the claims and termed them baseless.
In the recent attack on October 20, a doctor from Kashmir and six construction workers from outside Valley lost their lives.
In a post, Mehbooba had claimed that local authorities are pressuring non-local labourers to leave. While acknowledging the fear and panic caused by the attack, Mufti said that expelling labourers in this manner is not a solution and could lead to further complications.
Mufti said that this reaction could send a negative message across the country, particularly after Jammu and Kashmir recently held peaceful, militancy-free elections. She added that such actions might trigger backlash against Kashmiris living and working in other states.
In her post on X, the PDP chief called on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene and ensure labourers are granted enough time, urging a more thoughtful approach to prevent further escalation.
However, the Ganderbal police in a post refuted the claim saying the JK police is committed to maintain security and a sense of safety to all intending to earn their livelihood.
“The recent post in the social media about non-local labourers being asked to leave, is completely baseless. The J&K police is committed to maintain security and a sense of safety to all intending to earn their livelihood,” Ganderbal police wrote on X.
