Jammu: In response to a militant attack on an Indian Army convoy in the Akhnoor region of Jammu, armed forces have deployed BMP-2 infantry combat vehicles and NSG commandos to reinforce the operation, reports said on Tuesday.
The BMP-2, a Soviet-era combat vehicle equipped with a 30mm automatic cannon, anti-tank missiles, and night vision capabilities, has been mobilised to tighten surveillance and secure the area near the Assan temple in Jogwan village along the Line of Control (LoC), The Telegraph reported.
The attack occurred around 7 am when three militants opened fire on an Army vehicle. Following the initial ambush, the Army launched a coordinated counter-assault, deploying rocket launchers to the suspected hideouts.
Earlier, one militant was killed, and NSG commandos joined the operation to intensify the ongoing search. Helicopters were also pressed into action to locate remaining attackers in nearby forested areas. However, this morning, army announced that it have killed all the three militants in Aknoor.
Taking on micro-blogging platform X, The Army’s White Knight Corps wrote, “After round the clock surveillance through out the night, an intense firefight unfolded today morning resulting in a significant victory for our forces.
“Relentless operations and tactical excellence has led to the elimination of three militants,” the army officials said.
The operation also saw a recovery of arms and ammunition from the site of operation. Pertinently yesterday militants attacked a army vehicle (Ambulance) in Akhnoor, however no loss of life or injury was reported.
Subsequently, a joint operation by Jammu and Kashmir Police and Indian Army forces personnel launched massive operation to nab the attackers.
