Maharashtra: Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on Friday criticised the Congress-NC alliance for passing a resolution in Jammu and Kashmir’s newly elected assembly seeking to restore Article 370 and the region’s special status. Modi labeled it a “conspiracy against Kashmir.”
Speaking at a rally in Dhule, Maharashtra, as part of the state assembly election campaign, Modi said, “The moment Congress and INDI alliance gained power in Jammu and Kashmir, they began conspiring against Kashmir. Just two days ago, they pushed through a resolution in the JK assembly to bring back Article 370.”
The resolution was passed on Wednesday by voice vote, with all parties except the BJP in favour. Modi noted that BJP MLAs who opposed the move were ejected from the assembly after protesting the banners in support of Article 370.
“Banners supporting Article 370 were displayed in the assembly. The Congress alliance passed a resolution to restore it. Will the nation accept this? BJP members, who protested fiercely, were removed from the assembly. The country needs to see the true intentions of Congress and its allies,” Modi said.
Modi also urged Maharashtra voters to recognize Congress’s actions in JK, stressing, “The country won’t accept this move on Article 370. As long as I am here, only Bhim Rao Ambedkar’s Constitution will govern Kashmir. No power can bring back 370.”
The JK assembly session saw continued disruption, with PDP MLA from Kupwara displaying a banner supporting Article 370’s reinstatement.
This led to a clash between BJP MLAs and Awami Ittehad Party MLA Sheikh Khursheed, with BJP members eventually removed from the chamber on the Speaker’s orders.
The National Conference had promised in its election manifesto to push for Article 370’s restoration and J&K’s statehood.
At his rally, Modi also took aim at the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance in Maharashtra, likening it to a vehicle “without wheels or brakes” and accusing them of “misgovernance” and “looting” the state.
