Srinagar: A military operation against militants in the Ishbar area of Srinagar on Sunday morning marked the latest in a series of military actions against militants across Jammu and Kashmir. One operation is also underway in Kishtwar that started around 11am today. Over the past few days, similar operations have taken place in Sopore, Bandipora and Lolab of north Kashmir as armed forces, as claimed by Jammu and Kashmir police on official social media handles.
In central Kashmir’s Zarbwan forests near Ishbar, Nishat, an exchange of gunfire between militants and armed forces was reported this morning. According to police, a joint team of Indian Army and personnel of Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a search operation following specific intelligence about militant presence. The intense gunfire exchange was underway when this report was being filed.
In the remote forests of Keshwan in Kishtwar district, a military operation started today when a joint search team of Indian Army and J&K police intercepted militants suspected to be hiding in the area, as reported by PTI.
An Army personnel was reportedly injured during the exchange and three to four militants are believed to be involved in the recent killings of two village defence guards. The operation, which began Thursday evening, remains active as forces maintain their cordon around the area.
On Saturday, a militant was killed during a fresh military operation in the Rampora area of Sopore, marking the second such incident in the region within 24 hours. Earlier, an official said that acting on precise intelligence, armed forces launched a search operation, which led to an exchange of fire as militants attempted to repel the advancing forces.
Kashmir Zone Police confirmed the operation on social media platform X, stating that efforts to secure the area remain underway. This follows Friday’s operation in Sahipora, Sopore, where two militants were killed.
Earlier in the week, one operation was reported in Bandipora, which ended with the killing of a militant and a rifle was recovered and another operation was reported in Lolab, which also concluded with one militant killing.
