Srinagar: The police have refuted reports of an attack on the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Kashmir University Nilofar Khan near Zakura last evening. After thoroughly inspecting the area, police found no evidence of bullet marks or any signs corroborating the alleged incident.
Police teams who visited the scene conducted an extensive search but found no physical evidence to support the claims, said an official statement.
Additionally, witnesses, including those stationed at a nearby police naka, did not report hearing any gunfire, aside from precautionary rounds fired by the VC’s security personnel, who acted on perceived suspicion.
The matter remains under investigation, with authorities looking into all possible circumstances surrounding the incident.
Khan, appointed as the university’s first female vice chancellor in May 2022, alleged that while returning from a meeting with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday evening, a bullet hit her escort vehicle around 7 pm, prompting her security team to fire back. “Thankfully, I was unharmed,” she told UNI, adding that it was now up to the police to investigate the incident.
