New Delhi: External Affairs Minister of India S Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed the progress made in disengaging troops from Demchok and Depsang in eastern Ladakh during a meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio.
This marked the first high-level interaction between the two nations since the disengagement process was completed at these contentious points along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the mountainous region.
Following the talks, Jaishankar shared that both sides exchanged views on advancing India-China bilateral relations. “On the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio, met CPC Politburo member and FM Wang Yi of China,” he wrote on X on Monday evening.
“We noted the recent progress in disengagement along the India-China border areas and discussed the next steps in our bilateral ties, as well as the global situation,” he added.
The G20 Summit, hosted by Brazil, is taking place on Monday and Tuesday.
Last month, Indian and Chinese forces concluded the disengagement process in Demchok and Depsang, following an agreement to address the prolonged border dispute. Both nations have since resumed patrolling in these areas after a hiatus of nearly four-and-a-half years.
