Woman abducted from Kashmir recovered in Rajasthan; Kidnapper arrested, says police

Kupwara: The Kupwara police have recovered an abducted woman and apprehended the accused from Rajasthan following an investigation into a kidnapping case reported earlier this month.

On November 20, 2024, the police post Bazaar received a written complaint from Manzoor Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Hassan Mir of Doniwari Lolab stating that on November 12, 2024, while he and his wife were at SDH Hospital, his wife was abducted by Asif Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Hameed Bhat, a resident of Alchizebh Kupwara.

The complainant also stated that the accused used a motorcycle bearing registration number RJ13ST 3028 to carry out the abduction.

Based on the complaint, a case vide FIR No. 267/2024 under relevant sections of law was registered at police station Kupwara and investigation was initiated.

During the course of investigation, it was revealed that the accused along with the abductee had gone into hiding to evade arrest. Acting on this information, a police team was constituted, which successfully tracked and recovered the abducted woman from the custody of the accused in Rajasthan. The accused was immediately taken into custody.

The accused has been brought back to Kupwara, and further investigation into the case is going on, the police said.
