Israel recently arrested nearly 30 Jewish citizens accused of spying for Iran, operating in nine covert cells, Reuters reported.

These arrests mark Tehran’s significant infiltration effort, according to Israeli security sources as quoted by Reuters. Alleged activities included assassination attempts on Israeli nuclear scientists, gathering intelligence on military bases, and sabotage.

Among the detained were individuals from Israel’s ultra-Orthodox community, recent immigrants, and marginalized groups, unlike previous cases involving high-profile figures.

The suspects reportedly carried out minor acts like graffiti and vandalism but were also tasked with more severe espionage, including military intelligence gathering.

Iran’s recruitment relied heavily on social media, offering monetary rewards and employing blackmail. Israeli authorities have publicised details to deter future collaborators. This escalation coincides with Israel’s ongoing conflict with Iran-backed Hamas and a fragile ceasefire with Hezbollah.
