New Delhi: Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday claimed that the abrogation of Article 370 brought peace and progress to Jammu and Kashmir, quelling fears of violence.

“Forget bloodshed, no one has the courage to pelt even a single stone,” Shah said while addressing the Rajya Sabha during a discussion on the 75-year journey of the Indian Constitution. He highlighted investments worth ₹1.19 lakh crore flowing into the region over the past five years, a development he attributed to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) decisive governance.

Accusing the Congress of nurturing Article 370 for decades, Shah described it as an “illegitimate child” in the Congress’s lap, claiming the opposition’s appeasement politics prevented meaningful progress in Jammu and Kashmir. He contrasted this with the BJP’s “iron will” under Narendra Modi, which he said had successfully integrated the region with the rest of India.
