National Security Advisor Ajit Doval arrived in China on Tuesday for the 23rd round of India-China Special Representatives’ talks, aimed at resolving the border standoff in eastern Ladakh and restoring stalled bilateral ties.
Doval will meet Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to discuss disengagement efforts and other issues following the October 21 agreement to resolve the last two friction points at Demchok and Depsang.
Ahead of the talks, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said China is prepared to implement agreements reached during the Modi-Xi meeting at the BRICS summit and strengthen mutual trust through dialogue.
The talks mark the first structured engagement in five years, as relations soured after the 2020 Galwan Valley clash during the military standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Established in 2003, the SR mechanism has held 22 meetings, addressing border tensions but failing to resolve the dispute.
Wednesday’s meeting is seen as a significant step toward rebuilding ties and ensuring stability in the border areas.
