At least 28 more Palestinians lost their lives in ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, raising the total death toll since October 2023 to 45,581, according to the enclave’s Health Ministry on Thursday.
The ministry also reported that approximately 108,438 people have been injured during the continued assault.
“In the past 24 hours, Israeli forces killed 28 people and injured 59 others in two family-targeted massacres,” the statement said. It further noted that many victims remain trapped under rubble and on roads, with rescuers unable to reach them.
Despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire, Israel has pursued its military campaign against Gaza since a Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.
The second year of what critics describe as genocide in Gaza has sparked widespread international condemnation. Officials and organisations have denounced the attacks and the blocking of aid as deliberate efforts to eradicate a population.
In November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over its actions in Gaza.
