Srinagar: Many candidates appearing for the UGC NTA NET examination on January 6, 2025, at Rangreth, Srinagar, faced difficulties due to snowfall in the Valley.
Blocked roads and non-functional transport left several candidates unable to reach the examination center on time.
Ayesha Binte Muhammad from Srinagar, who somehow managed to reach the center because her brother dropped her off, said, “I feel fortunate that I made it, but I feel bad for my friends and other students who couldn’t. They had no way to get here.”
However, Ayesha highlighted the poor arrangements at the center.
“The computers weren’t working properly, and the screens were difficult to see. This is nothing compared to other states where students get better facilities,” she added.
Tabasum from Pulwama said, “The snow made it impossible for vehicles to move, and local transport was not running. I missed the exam despite all my efforts.”
Another student, Sarwat from Shopian, narrated the same sentiment, saying, “There were no arrangements for such conditions, even though the reporting time was 8:30am.
“Many of us couldn’t make it,” Nahida from Pampore added, “It’s frustrating to see so many students lose their chance because of something beyond their control.”
Even for those who managed to reach the venue, the situation was difficult. Candidates reported that the exam time was reduced without explanation, adding to the stress.
The affected candidates have appealed to Sakina Itoo to take up the matter and request a re-examination.
“We hope Sakina Ji can help ensure we get a fair chance like students in other states,” the students said.
For these students, the issue is not just about missing an exam but about addressing the lack of preparedness and fairness in the process.
Free Press Kashmir tried to contact Education Minister Sakina Itoo for her response, but repeated calls went unanswered. This story will be updated if she responds.
