Jammu: Two militants were shot dead by the Indian Army in a military operation along the Line of Control in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday evening. They were trying to cross over from Pakistan-administered Kashmir (PaK), sources told Indian Express.

According to police, three militants tried to enter India from Poonch’s Khari Karmara sector. While two were killed, the third escaped back into PaK, the report said.

This incident comes as deployment at the border has been tightened following intelligence warnings of possible infiltrations. Armed forces have also been searching areas in Doda and Kathua after reports suggested that militants had moved into these regions.

Although militant activity in Poonch and Rajouri decreased last year, armed forces are continuing search operations to prevent future threats. The operation happened just days after Jammu and Kashmir’s police chief, Nalin Prabhat, visited the Basantgarh region, which is of strategic importance.

Meanwhile, militant incidents have increased in other districts like Reasi, Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua, Udhampur, and Jammu, raising concerns, the report added.
