New Delhi: AAP chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal faced a defeat in his stronghold of New Delhi, losing to BJP’s Parvesh Verma by 3,182 votes.
Verma, the son of a former Chief Minister, ended Kejriwal’s long-held dominance in the constituency.
Kejriwal first won this seat in 2013, defeating Congress veteran and then Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, marking the beginning of AAP’s decade-long rule in Delhi.
earlier, the Election Commission of India said that the constituency recorded a voter turnout of 56.41 per cent.
The counting of votes for the Delhi Assembly elections is being held today, determining whether AAP secures a fourth consecutive term or if the BJP returns to power in the national capital after over 26 years.
