US, Ukraine and Russia to meet in Saudi Arabia next week: President Trump

Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.

Senior officials from the US, Ukraine, and Russia are set to meet in Saudi Arabia next week for talks aimed at ending the ongoing war between Moscow and Kyiv, former US President Donald Trump announced.

Trump clarified that the leaders of these nations would not be attending the discussions, instead sending high-level representatives to negotiate.

He described a “very good” conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday, saying it significantly contributed to efforts toward resolving the conflict, which has led to heavy casualties, particularly among soldiers.

“We’re going to see if we can end that war. It’s a horrible, bloody conflict, and we want to bring it to an end,” Trump said while hosting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Earlier, Trump expressed confidence in Putin, stating that he believes the Russian leader seeks peace with Ukraine.

“I know President Putin very well. When I spoke to him yesterday, I believe he wants peace. I think he would tell me if he didn’t,” he remarked.

Trump’s comments followed his separate phone conversations with both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an effort to mediate an end to the war.
