Telangana: A 15-year-old girl lost her life after being attacked while trying to shield her father, Mohammed Ismail, from a mob in Antharam village, Zaheerabad, Telangana. The assault took place on February 11, and the victim Aliya Begum succumbed to her injuries on February 15, The Observer Post reported.
According to witnesses, the girl’s father Mohammed Ismail was urinating in a field near the house of Veera Reddy and Vijay Reddy, who, along with about 40 others, assaulted him. As Aliya rushed to protect her father, she was struck with stones.
AIMIM MLA Kausar Mohiuddin, who visited the grieving family, condemned the attack. “This is not just about one family—it affects the entire community. We will not stop until justice is served,” he stated.
Amjadullah Khan Khalid of the Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) called for a judicial inquiry led by a High Court judge, immediate arrests of all accused, Rs25 lakh in compensation for the family, a government job, and a house under the Indiramma Housing Scheme.
Advocate Afsar Jahan, representing the All India Milli Council’s legal team, assured that the culprits would not go unpunished. “We have advised the family not to accept any compensation that compromises their legal rights,” she said.
Police have filed a case against the Reddy brothers and other suspects, but locals remain doubtful. “We have lived peacefully for years. Why did this happen now?” questioned an elderly resident.
Social media activist Saba Khan shared on X, “Aliya Begum (15) was stoned while defending her father from a mob led by Veera and Vijay Reddy. She was preparing for her board exams. May Allah grant her Jannah and give strength to her parents.”
Community leaders caution that failure to ensure justice could worsen communal tensions. “Justice delayed is justice denied,” remarked a member of the All India Milli Council. Aliya’s tragic death has become a rallying cry in the fight against targeted violence.
