New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has come under fire for using the term “Kathmulla“— a derogatory slur against Muslims —during an Assembly session. The remark, which was met with a smile from the Speaker, has triggered widespread outrage on social media, with many accusing him of fostering anti-Muslim sentiments.

JK politician and MP from National Conference Aga Ruhullah strongly condemned Adityanath’s comments, calling them a reflection of his ‘deep-seated Islamophobia’.

“UP Chief Minister’s vile remarks—using the slur ‘Kathmulla’ and deriding Maulvis—are latest examples of his deep-seated Islamophobia,” he said.

He said, “The UP Chief Minister’s vile remarks—using the slur ‘Kathmulla’ and deriding Maulvis—are the latest examples of his hatred and division. He is the embodiment of the RSS’s ideology of dehumanising Muslims. UP’s Muslims deserve better than an RSS bigot.”

The incident has intensified criticism of Adityanath’s rhetoric, with users on various platforms accusing him of deepening communal divides. However, there has been no clarification from the CM’s office so far.

One user said, “…and still the highest courts of the country, the public and the police, all are going after a YouTuber! (Not saying what he said was right or acceptable) but far worseeee things are happening out there and that too by people in power!”.
