MLA caught spitting paan masala in UP assembly, speaker condemns indiscipline

Speaker Satish Mahana personally inspecting the area and ensuring the stains were cleaned.

Lucknow: On Tuesday, before the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly session began, an MLA was caught spitting paan masala inside the premises. This came despite an eight-year-old ban on tobacco products in Uttar Pradesh government offices.

Expressing strong disapproval, Speaker Satish Mahana condemned the act as “indiscipline and indecent” and urged legislators to uphold cleanliness and dignity in the House.

CCTV footage reportedly showed multiple MLAs entering the Assembly after consuming paan masala and spitting in various spots. Upon being informed, Speaker Mahana personally inspected the area and ensured the stains were cleaned, calling it a serious breach of the Assembly’s decorum.

Addressing the House, Mahana refrained from naming the MLA but emphasized that maintaining cleanliness is a collective responsibility. He urged members to intervene if they witness such behavior, reinforcing the need for discipline in the legislature.
