In the case of train hijacking, Pakistani security forces have successfully rescued 155 passengers from the hijacked Jaffar Express, killing at least 27 militants in an intense operation that is still ongoing. However, insurgents continue to hold over 200 hostages as the standoff enters its second day.

Reports quoting security sources said that 80 civilians—including 43 men, 26 women, and 11 children—have been safely evacuated from the train, which remains stationary near the Mashkaf tunnel.

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), responsible for the hijacking, has refused to surrender, prompting fierce gunfire exchanges between militants and security forces.

A police officer, a soldier, and the train’s driver were among those killed in the initial assault, while at least 17 rescued passengers have been hospitalised due to injuries. Officials have imposed an emergency at hospitals in Sibi and Quetta, mobilising doctors and paramedics for immediate medical care.

The BLA had earlier threatened to execute hostages and destroy the train if their demands were not met. However, Pakistani authorities have dismissed any negotiations and are focusing on a full-scale rescue operation. This incident marks one of the most significant militant attacks in Balochistan in recent years.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for their swift action and reiterated his commitment to combating militancy. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack, stating, “The beasts who fire on innocent passengers do not deserve any concessions.”
