Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government has received over 8,500 applications for industrial development, with proposed investments exceeding Rs1.69 lakh crore and job creation plans for more than six lakh people.
Under the Industrial Policy 2016-26 and Industrial Land Allotment Policy 2021-30, the government has allocated industrial land to 213 non-locals and 1,751 locals.
Responding to a cut motion by CPI(M) member M Y Tarigami in the assembly, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary stated that 8,532 applications had been submitted via the Single Window System, with a total investment proposal of Rs 1,69,282.22 crore and employment potential for 6,06,203 individuals. The applications collectively sought 80,668.91 kanals (10,083.61 acres) of land.
Breaking down the figures, Choudhary noted that Jammu region received 2,209 applications proposing investments of Rs 1,18,918.47 crore and employment for 2,66,729 people, while Kashmir saw 6,323 applications with proposed investments of Rs 50,363.75 crore and job creation for 3,39,474 people. The land requirements stood at 46,352.86 kanals (5,794.10 acres) for Jammu and 34,316.05 kanals (4,289.50 acres) for Kashmir.
In response to BJP member Chander Prakash Ganga’s cut motion, Choudhary revealed that 6,816.25 kanals (852.03 acres) had been allotted to 213 non-local beneficiaries, while 4,730 kanals (591.25 acres) were allocated to 1,751 locals. Of this, 6,408.25 kanals went to 205 non-locals in Jammu, while eight beneficiaries in Kashmir received 408 kanals. Among locals, 1,153 individuals in Kashmir were allotted 2,851 kanals, and 598 individuals in Jammu received 1,976 kanals.
