Jammu: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday criticised the government of India’s Waqf Bill, alleging that it selectively targets Muslim religious institutions while ignoring similar bodies from other faiths.
Talking to reporters in Jammu, Omar Abdullah said that religious institutions exist across all faiths and contribute to charitable activities, but only Waqf properties are facing scrutiny under the new bill.
“It is evident that only one religion is being targeted. Religious institutions are affiliated with every religion. There is no religion that doesn’t have its institutions or engage in charitable activities. Muslims contribute through Waqf, yet it is being selectively targeted,” Abdullah said, as per Kashmir News Observer.
