Poonch: The Pakistani Army violated the ceasefire by opening unprovoked fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district’s Krishna Ghati sector on April 1, following a mine explosion, an Indian Army spokesperson said.
Army PRO Lt Colonel Suneel Bartwal stated on Wednesday that Indian troops responded in a “controlled and calibrated manner,” ensuring that the situation remained under control.
“On April 1, 2025, a mine blast occurred in Krishna Ghati sector while the Pakistan Army was patrolling along the LoC. This was followed by unprovoked firing and ceasefire violation by the Pakistan Army,” he said.
He reiterated that Indian forces effectively responded to the provocation and continue to maintain dominance along the LoC. “The Indian Army remains committed to upholding the 2021 understanding between the Director Generals of Military Operations of both nations to ensure peace along the LoC,” he added.
In an earlier version of the statement, the Army PRO had claimed that the mine blast occurred due to a “Pakistani Army intrusion across the LoC.” However, in a revised statement, the term “intrusion” was omitted, instead stating that the explosion took place while the Pakistani Army was patrolling the region.
Quoting sources The Indian Express reported that the incident took place in the Nangi Tikri area of Krishna Ghati sector around 1:30 pm on Tuesday. It is believed that persons from the Pakistani side, possibly a mix of Army personnel and militants, attempted to plant improvised explosive devices (IEDs) near the LoC. One of them reportedly stepped on a landmine, triggering an explosion, followed by two more blasts. The sources suggested that the intruders might have been carrying IEDs, which also exploded, possibly causing casualties among them.
However, there has been no official confirmation from the Indian Army regarding any casualties among the Pakistani personnel involved. To counter infiltration attempts, Indian forces have placed landmines at strategic points along the LoC.
Following the blasts, Pakistani troops allegedly resorted to unprovoked firing, seemingly to provide cover for the intruders trying to retreat from the minefield. Indian troops retaliated appropriately, the sources told The Indian Express.
