Mumbai: A day after 26 people, including tourists and a local resident, were killed in a militant attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Wednesday squarely blamed Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for the security lapse, demanding Shah’s immediate resignation.
Calling Shah “the most failed Home Minister in the history of India,” Raut questioned the GoI’s claims of normalcy in Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370. He accused the BJP of misleading the nation with false assurances that militancy had been eradicated post-demonetisation and the constitutional change in J&K.
“In the midst of rising communal tension, the Modi-Shah duo is preoccupied with crushing the Opposition—buying MLAs, arresting leaders, breaking parties, and toppling governments,” Raut said. “If they are consumed by political games, how can they protect the citizens?”
He further said, “Amit Shah is accountable for the loss of 27 lives in this attack. While he is busy playing political chess, the country is bleeding.”
Raut also raised concerns about the BJP’s response to terrorism, questioning whether their strategy is limited to polarisation or dramatic gestures ahead of elections. “Is replying to terrorists going to mean more communal politics? Will they stage surgical strikes now that elections are near?” he asked.
Highlighting the broader implications of communal politics, Raut said, “People are being killed in Manipur, West Bengal, and J&K in the name of religion. This is not governance—it’s like running an underworld gang.”
He said, “Modi claimed in Parliament that J&K would become free of terrorism. Instead, innocent people have been sent to their graves. The BJP continues to deceive the nation, and sadly, many are still falling for it.
