A Border Security Force (BSF) personnel was detained by Pakistan Rangers on Wednesday after he inadvertently crossed the international border in Punjab’s Ferozepur district.

The personnel, identified as P K Singh from Hooghly district in West Bengal, had recently been posted in the area. Pakistan Rangers also released a photo of Singh, blindfolded, after taking him into custody.

Singh was one of two BSF personnel deployed at the Jaloke border post, where farmers were working on their fields located across the barbed wire fence — still within Indian territory. These areas are accessible to farmers during fixed hours under BSF supervision. The personnel assigned to oversee this activity are known as Kisan Guards, Indian Express reported.

The incident reportedly occurred near fencing gate number 208/1 in the Mamdot sector. At the time, Singh was carrying his service weapon (an AK-47 rifle) and a water bottle.

BSF officials confirmed they have initiated communication with the Pakistan Rangers to ensure Singh’s safe return.
