‘Dogs and Muslims not allowed’: Hate poster emerges at Bidhan Chandra Agricultural University

Poster found on the notice board of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV) in Kalyani.

New Delhi: In the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people, a hateful and Islamophobic poster was found on the notice board of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV) in Kalyani, West Bengal, sparking widespread outrage and fear among students and faculty.

The offensive poster read “Dogs and Muslims not allowed”, and included inflammatory phrases such as “All eyes on Pahalgam” and “Terrorism means Islam.”

The discovery of the poster has raised serious concerns about rising communal tensions across the country, especially following the Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of Indian tourists, two foreigners, and a local youth.

Students and staff at BCKV expressed shock and dismay over the incident. “It’s truly unfortunate and unacceptable that such hate messages should find their way onto a campus known for its academic excellence,” said one alumnus. University authorities are investigating the matter, but the identity of those responsible remains unknown.

Meanwhile, Kashmiri students studying outside the Valley are facing growing threats, harassment, and violence, with many being told to leave their colleges or risk attacks.

The appearance of the poster at BCKV reflects how extremist elements are using the tragedy to stoke Islamophobia and deepen divisions, creating an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among Muslim communities nationwide.
