New Delhi: OpenAI on Tuesday unveiled new upgrades to ChatGPT’s search capabilities, including enhanced shopping features.
Search has rapidly emerged as one of ChatGPT’s most widely used tools, logging over a billion web queries in just the past week.
Users can now search for products, compare different options, view pricing, visual details, and reviews — all within ChatGPT — and even receive personalised recommendations along with direct buying links, the Sam Altman-led company said.
OpenAI clarified that product results are selected independently and are not advertisements.
“E-commerce within ChatGPT is still in its early stages, and we’re bringing merchants along as we test and evolve the experience,” the company added.
These features are being rolled out to Free, Plus, Pro, and even logged-out users in all countries where ChatGPT is available.
OpenAI also revealed that its “Memory” feature will soon integrate with both search and shopping. This means ChatGPT will take previous conversations into account to offer more tailored results.
The memory integration is set to launch in the coming weeks and will be available to Plus and Pro users globally, except those in the EEA, UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein. Users can manage or update memory settings at any time.
Additionally, ChatGPT is now accessible via WhatsApp, enabling users to message it directly for up-to-date responses. Instructions and QR codes to add ChatGPT on WhatsApp are now available.
Among other improvements, ChatGPT will now display multiple citations for a single response, making it easier for users to cross-check information. A new highlight interface shows exactly which parts of the response are linked to which sources.
