Poonch: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) dismissed Munir Ahmed, a personnel from Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch, after learning that he had married a Pakistani national without informing his superiors, The Indian Express reported.
The dismissal occurred without a formal inquiry, and Ahmed denies the allegation, claiming he had notified the CRPF about his marriage last year.
The action follows the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists. The CRPF Commandant issued an order stating that Ahmed’s marriage with a Pakistani national and his failure to inform authorities about it had compromised ‘national security’. As a result, he was dismissed with immediate effect, bypassing the usual inquiry process due to the perceived threat to state security.
Ahmed had married Menal Khan, a Pakistani national, on May 24 last year, and he insists that he informed the CRPF Directorate and even sought an NOC for his marriage. As per The Indian Express report, he also claims that he followed the proper procedure, notifying the force about his wife’s short-term visa and her application for a long-term visa, which expired earlier this year.
Despite his claims, the CRPF dismissed him under Article 311(2)(b) of the Indian Constitution, citing that no formal inquiry was necessary due to national security concerns. Ahmed plans to challenge the dismissal in court.
Meanwhile, Menal’s short-term visa has expired, and she faced deportation after the Pahalgam attack, but the process was halted after Ahmed filed a petition in the Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.
