New Delhi: The Indian armed forces conducted missile strikes early Wednesday on nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, including Muridke and Bahawalpur.

The strikes, carried out at 1:44am, were in retaliation for the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people — 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen, NDTV reported.

According to an official statement from the Ministry of Defence, “the strikes targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir, locations from where terrorist operations against India are planned and directed.”

The Defence Ministry said that India’s actions were focused, measured, and aimed at de-escalation. They clarified that no Pakistani military facilities were targeted, showing restraint in target selection and execution methods.

The Ministry reaffirmed India’s commitment to holding accountable those responsible for the Pahalgam attack. The strikes coincided with preparations across India for a security mock drill aimed at enhancing civil defence capabilities in response to potential hostile attacks.

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has pledged to pursue the attackers and conspirators involved in the Pahalgam incident relentlessly, promising severe consequences that exceed their expectations.
