New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence on Friday issued a strong advisory to all media channels, digital platforms, and persons, urging them to refrain from live coverage or real-time reporting of defence operations and troop movements, warning that such disclosures could compromise national security and endanger lives.
In a post on X, the ministry stated, “Disclosure of sensitive or source-based information may jeopardize operational effectiveness and endanger lives.” It cited past examples such as the Kargil War, the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, and the Kandahar hijacking to highlight the dangers of premature reporting.
The advisory comes under Clause 6(1)(p) of the Cable Television Networks (Amendment) Rules, 2021, which permits only periodic briefings by designated officials during anti-terror operations.
