India-Pakistan war none of our business, says US Vice President Vance

US Vice President JD Vance

United States Vice President JD Vance has said that while the United States encourages India and Pakistan to de-escalate rising tensions, any potential war between the two nuclear-armed neighbours would not warrant American intervention, describing it as “none of our business.”

“We want this thing to de-escalate as quickly as possible. We can’t control these countries, though,” Vance said during an interview on Fox News’ The Story with Martha MacCallum.

“We’re not going to get involved in the middle of a war that’s fundamentally none of our business and has nothing to do with America’s ability to control it.”

The comments come at a time of heightened diplomatic activity, with Washington reportedly in contact with both New Delhi and Islamabad in recent days.

Vance’s statement signals a restrained US approach, focusing on urging calm rather than direct involvement.

India is viewed by Washington as a crucial partner in its Indo-Pacific strategy, particularly in countering China’s growing influence.

Pakistan, while still an ally, has seen its strategic significance to the US decline since America’s military withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Vance had recently visited India, delivering a speech at the Rajasthan International Centre in Jaipur in April, as part of efforts to deepen bilateral ties.
