JP Nadda asked me to delete post comparing Modi and Trump, says Kangana Ranaut

New Delhi: BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut revealed on Thursday that BJP national president JP Nadda personally phoned her, requesting the removal of a social media post she had made regarding US President Donald Trump’s comments on Apple’s plans to manufacture in India.

The now-deleted post had speculated on possible reasons behind Trump’s discomfort with Apple’s shift to India, drawing comparisons between him and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a statement posted on X, Ranaut said, “Respected national president Shri @JPNadda ji called and asked me to delete the tweet I had shared about Trump urging Apple CEO Tim Cook not to manufacture in India. I regret expressing that personal opinion publicly. Following his advice, I immediately took it down from Instagram as well. Thank you.”

Ranaut’s deleted post had read: “What could be the reason for this sourness? 1) He’s the American President, but the world’s most loved leader is our Indian PM. 2) Trump is in his second term, while our PM is in his third. 3) Trump may be an alpha male, but our PM is the father of all alpha males. What do you think — is this personal jealousy or diplomatic insecurity?”

Her comments came after Trump, speaking at a business forum in Doha, said he had told Apple CEO Tim Cook, “I don’t want you building in India.” The former US President was addressing concerns about Apple’s growing manufacturing presence in India.

“I told him — my friend — I treat you very well. You’re investing \$500 billion, but now I hear you’re expanding in India. I don’t want you building in India. You can if you want to support India, but India has some of the world’s highest tariffs, which makes selling there very difficult,” Trump said.

He did not elaborate further on how the conversation ended or whether Apple’s plans in India had changed.
