Heatwave alert in JK as temperatures set to rise

Srinagar: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast generally hot and dry weather conditions across Jammu and Kashmir from May 23 to May 31, with chances of brief spells of rain and thundershowers during the period.

From May 23 to 26, the weather is expected to remain predominantly hot and dry, though light rain may occur at isolated places, especially in the late afternoons.

Between May 27 and 31, similar conditions are likely to continue with a higher possibility of light rain or thundershowers at scattered to many places.

Advisory

The Met department has warned of a 1-2°C rise in maximum temperatures across Kashmir division till May 23, with a chance of heatwave-like conditions in isolated areas. A subsequent drop of 2-3°C is expected.

In Jammu division, temperatures are expected to increase by 2-3°C until May 26, also raising the risk of isolated heatwave conditions.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions during peak afternoon hours.

The possibility of thunder or gusty winds in isolated areas towards late afternoon has also not been ruled out.
