Man held with stolen cash, jewellery in Shopian; Srinagar theft caught on CCTV, probe on

Srinagar: Police in Shopian solved a theft case within 12 hours by arresting the accused and recovering the stolen property. Irshad Ahmad of Children Keegam had reported that during the night of June 1, someone broke into his house and stole Rs 40,000 and jewellery.

A case (FIR No. 121/2025) was registered at Police Station Shopian.

The accused, Nazir Ahmad Malik of Tharian Keller — identified as a habitual offender — was apprehended by a team led by In-Charge Police Post Keegam under DySP Hqrs Shopian. Further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, Srinagar Police is seeking public assistance in identifying a suspect involved in a theft at Batyar Aali Kadal on the night of May 30–31.

The case is registered under FIR No. 28/2025 at PS M R Gunj.
