Srinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate infrastructure projects worth ₹46,000 crore in Jammu and Kashmir on June 6, marking what officials call a major step towards improving connectivity and boosting development in the region.
Among the major projects is the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), which aims to provide all-weather rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of India.
The newly introduced Vande Bharat trains on the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra–Srinagar route are also expected to enhance spiritual tourism and generate employment opportunities.
The Chenab Rail Bridge, the world’s tallest railway bridge, and the Anji Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge in a mountainous terrain, are also being inaugurated. Both structures are seen as engineering milestones and part of efforts to improve transportation infrastructure in the region.
“Tomorrow, 6th June is indeed a special day for my sisters and brothers of Jammu and Kashmir. Key infrastructure projects worth Rs. 46,000 crores are being inaugurated which will have a very positive impact on people’s lives,” Modi said in a post on X.
“Visited the tallest railway bridge in the world, The Chenab Bridge, to review arrangements for the visit of the Hon PM @narendramodi ji tomorrow,” Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on X.
“Tomorrow is a landmark day for J&K when, finally, the valley will be connected to the rest of the country by a railway link to be inaugurated at the hands of the Hon PM.”
