Srinagar: As part of a special market-checking drive ahead of Eid ul Adha, the Food Safety team, under the directions of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, carried out intensive inspections across various parts of Srinagar city. The objective was to ensure the availability of standard-quality food products in the market.

The inspection team, led by the Assistant Commissioner Food Safety, visited several areas including Zainakote Industrial Area, Shalteng, Lalbazar, Hazratbal, Saderbal, Nowhatta, and nearby localities. The drive aimed to verify compliance with the food safety norms among Food Business Operators (FBOs) such as manufacturers, retailers, and wholesalers.

During one such inspection, a significant quantity of expired ghee—approximately 110 kilograms—was seized from a manufacturing unit in the Zainakote Industrial Area. A case has been registered against the concerned Food Business Operator under the relevant provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act.

Meanwhile, the DC has directed the Food Safety Department to continue regular market inspections across Srinagar to ensure strict adherence to food safety standards. He stressed the importance of safeguarding public health by ensuring that all food products meet the highest safety norms across all sectors.

The Food Safety Department has also issued a public advisory urging consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing food items. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious or substandard products to the department, so prompt action can be taken against violators.

Furthermore, all Food Business Operators have been cautioned to comply with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act. Any violation may lead to stringent action, including the possibility of sealing the premises. Authorities have made it clear that no compromise on the quality of food items will be tolerated.
