Israel has launched an unprecedented series of airstrikes deep inside Iranian territory, targeting critical components of Iran’s nuclear programme and military command infrastructure.
The operation, named Rising Lion, marks one of the most expansive Israeli offensives against Iran to date.
According to the Israeli military, 200 fighter jets took part in the coordinated strikes, which hit Iran’s uranium enrichment site at Natanz, key missile development hubs, and air defence systems. Strikes also focused on secure military compounds housing senior members of Iran’s security establishment.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the operation was aimed at “neutralising the growing nuclear threat,” describing it as a mission that “will continue for many days.”
An Israeli army spokesperson detailed the scope of the operation: Iranian defence systems and nuclear facilities were primary targets; Secure military zones, including those housing top commanders, were struck; the strikes aimed to dismantle Iran’s ability to develop and deploy nuclear weapons; 200 aircraft were used in precision attacks across multiple provinces in Iran.
Iranian state media confirmed that several high-ranking officials and nuclear scientists were present at some of the targeted sites. However, Iranian authorities have not released full details of the damage or casualties.
In retaliation, Iran reportedly launched over 100 drones toward Israeli territory, raising fears of broader regional escalation.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasised that the United States had no involvement in the operation. President Donald Trump, prior to the strikes, had cautioned against military escalation amid ongoing nuclear talks.
As both nations brace for potential further attacks, global concern is growing over the implications of this intensifying conflict.
