Israel will “strike every target” of Iran’s regime, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a video address on Saturday, as tensions between the long-standing foes continue to flare.
Netanyahu said that in the “very near future, you will see Israeli planes, the Israeli Air Force, our brave pilots, above the skies of Tehran.”
Tensions continued to rise on Saturday after Iran’s missile attack on Israel killed at least three people and wounded dozens in the Tel Aviv region Friday night. Israel responded forcefully with continued airstrikes into Iran, raising fears of a prolonged regional conflict.
Despite the late-night bombardment, many Israelis resumed their normal routines Saturday, though anxiety lingered, with families preparing for more nights in bomb shelters.
Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant warned Iran against further escalation, stating, “Tehran will burn” if attacks continue. Most of Iran’s missiles were intercepted by Israeli defence systems, with assistance from the United States, a US official confirmed was quoted as saying by international media.
Former US President Donald Trump told The Wall Street Journal he had been aware of Israel’s planned strikes, adding, “We know what’s going on.” He urged Iran’s leaders to negotiate: “Make a deal before there is nothing left.”
With Israeli jets still in the air and Tehran reeling from leadership losses, the region stands on edge. Observers fear that further tit-for-tat strikes could spiral into broader warfare.
