90 Kashmiri students among 110 evacuated from Iran, en route to Delhi as war escalates

Of the evacuated group, nearly 90 students hail from the Kashmir Valley, while the rest are from other Indian states.

Amid war between Iran and Israel, the government of India has evacuated around 110 Indian students stranded in Iran, most of whom are from Jammu and Kashmir.

The students, who were enrolled at Urmia Medical University, crossed into Armenia on Tuesday and have now reached the Armenian capital, Yerevan, safely, Jammu and Kashmir Students Association said on Wednesday.

Of the evacuated group, nearly 90 students hail from the Kashmir Valley, while the rest are from other Indian states. They are currently being accommodated at designated hotels in Yerevan.

The evacuation operation was coordinated by the Ministry of External Affairs, which arranged flight tickets free of cost for the students. According to information received by the association, onward travel arrangements are also being made for the Kashmiri students from Delhi to Srinagar to ensure a smooth journey back home, the student body said.

The students’ return itinerary includes a departure from Yerevan Airport at 08:45 hrs on June 18 via IndiGo flight 6E 9483 to Doha. From there, they will board a connecting flight, 6E 9487, to Delhi, expected to land at 22:15 hrs the same day. Authorities have cautioned there may be minor delays.

The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association has been actively coordinating with the government and students on the ground.

“We are thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji and External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar for their timely intervention,” said Nasir Khuehami, National Convenor of the association. “Efforts are ongoing to ensure that the remaining students in Iran are also brought back safely.”
